Soft, subtle shades of blue are trending in bedrooms for 2026. It’s an elevated upgrade from a cream or beige, ultra relaxed, yet has the ability to calm us in its presence.
Farrow and Ball Light Blue is one of the most popular soft blue shades. This silvery blue is the lightest in their collection, and it can almost be passed as a neutral as it’s just so versatile when pairing with other colours in a bedroom scheme.
I’m a huge fan of using soft blues in my own design schemes, so here are some of the best colour schemes and ideas to try with Light Blue.
Tranquil Farrow and Ball Light Blue Bedroom Ideas To Try
1.Bring Character With Wall Panelling
Elevate an otherwise plain painted wall by adding some wall panelling. There’s nothing ‘trending’ about wall panelling, it’s been used in interiors for decades and is here to stay.
Which type to use? There are so many different ways you can panel, but some are better suited to certain styles, and ages of homes more. This wainscoting style shown below is best for traditional, period style properties. It adds instant character and texture to a bedroom.
2. Blushing Pink
Pink is a complementary colour to blue, and if you’re ever in doubt with what colours to pair with Light Blue, introduce a shade of blush on some textiles to balance that coolness, and inject some warmth into the bedroom.
If you want to introduce a white into the rest of your room, such as on the ceiling, take a look at Farrow and Ball Tailor Tack for a subtle off-white with pink undertones that works beautifully with this popular blue.
3. Opposites Attract
Blue and red is my all time favourite colour combination. They both sit opposite each over the colour spectrum which is what makes this such a striking, flawless combination of colours.
It’s utterly coastal inspired, and introducing a few warm pops of red on bedding is all you need to make the most of the effect that red has on a room. Try it, and you’ll notice how it instantly focuses your eye as you step into the room.
4. Balance With A Warm Off-White
Using a cool shade like blue in a bedroom can make a dark, north facing room feel even colder. So, consider using a warm off-white on the ceiling to draw the eye up and provide a warm balance against the cool tones of the blue.
School House White is one of the best off-white pairings for this blue, just stay away from a bog standard bright white that can make a cold room feel even flatter. You need to use an off-white with a yellow, red or pink undertone to really lift the scheme.
5. Coastal Inspired Scheme
Blue isn’t just best reserved for coastal bedroom schemes, but it certainly does work so well in one as your base colour.
Contrary to popular belief, a light blue pairs well with virtually any colour and is so easy to work with. In a coastal scheme, introduce other shades that you see with it in nature. This includes reds, blacks, charcoal and cream shades.
6. Stand Out Bed Frame
The rise of the patterned bed frame is still growing in popularity, and quite rightly, it becomes the star of the show in any bedroom scheme.
Light Blue as the foundation colour in a bedroom lets the pattern breathe, when picking a bed frame material you ideally want to lean into something darker than the wall colour so it brings natural definition and grounds the room.
The classic white linen bed sheets really balance with it all so well.
7. Classic Stripes
What a gorgeous setup for dogs! Set off light blue with a classic and timeless fabric such as stripes.
If you’re not 100% confident about introducing pattern, stripes are a comfortable place to start. They work with any colour, bring a classic fit to a room and will still be trendy in years to come.
8. Layer With Texture
Layer up with texture in your bedroom to create a cosy, tranquil space. The bedroom below engages with a stunning rattan detail on the bed frame which feels tactile and warm.
Choose a beautiful linen curtain and thoughtful fabrics and colours for dressing your bed.
9. Semi Colour Drench
If you’re decorating an attic room or a bedroom with a sloped ceiling, Carry Light Blue up and over that ceiling. Trust me on this one! It will avoid slightly sloped, unusual ceilings from standing out as a feature, and instead create a more flawless scheme.
If you want to recreate a similar look to the one below, use All White by Farrow and Ball on the lower half of the room.
10. Vintage Details
The things that make a bedroom scheme your own are the ones that hold carefully collected items over the years, or stand out pieces that were a steal on Facebook marketplace.
Whether it’s a quietly sitting bedside table or a vintage lamp, these priceless pieces work so well with a tranquil, relaxed colour scheme like in the below bedroom.
11. Add Definition With Grey
If you have a particularly sunny south facing room, you might want to purposefully use cooler toned colours to counteract the brightness and intensity of the sun.
When using Light Blue, leaning into a darker charcoal shade acts as a great defining colour, without having to use black.
12. Combine With A Deeper Blue
Instead of a black or grey, lean into using a deeper blue on an accent detail in your room. In the bedroom below, Inchyra Blue has been used on the built in wardrobes for a beautiful focal feature.
Take inspiration from the below and finish with Strong White by Farrow and Ball on the ceiling and woodwork.
13. Tonal Colours
Or, use a slightly more muted, tonal blue on an accent area such as wardrobes for a softer approach in a bedroom. Little Greene Etruria has been used here, and it’s the most beautiful deeper shade of cornflower blue.
Note the small pops of red in the decor to tap into the ‘unexpected red theory’.
14. Soften With Warm Neutrals
This blue might as well be classed as a neutral as it’s just as versatile, and it works hand in hand with warm neutrals in a bedroom scheme.
Sandy browns, elevated whites and soft beiges just look beautiful set against this dusty shade of blue.
15. Introduce Biophillic Elements
Forget everything you know about pairing blue with green, and instead add some with plenty of biophillic elements. Use a mixture of floor, shelf and table standing plants to benefit from the natural greenery in your bedroom.
16. Widen The Room With Horizontal Panelling
I love this farmhouse style bedroom below which can easily be recreated by using chunky tongue and groove style panelling. Instead of placing it vertically, position it horizontally for a different look. It will naturally widen the room and engage the eye instantly as you walk in.
If you love farmhouse style, use a few well placed black items in the bedroom, it defines the scheme and is a key characteristic in farmhouse design.
17. Combine With Pattern
You can bring any bedroom scheme together beautifully with some pattern. A headboard is an easy place to do it, choose this print first, before introducing complementary patterns into the rest of the bedding, and room.
If you’re using a large print on the headboard, pair with a smaller dainty print on other areas to avoid them clashing for attention.
Light Blue is such a workable colour in a bedroom, and there’s so many ways you can take inspiration from it in your own bedroom project!
