I am a huge fan of an accent wall in a bedroom, and well, it’s actually one of the best places to do it in an interior without it looking out of place.
Your bed wall is the best place to do this, and it can be something as simple as adding a slightly darker hue to one wall. It’s the perfect opportunity to draw the eye in and create a stunning focal feature in the room, and there are so many stylish ways to achieve it.
So, I’ve rounded up a whole host of totally different accent wall styles to give you something to think about when decorating your own space.
Bold or Subtle? 19 Stunning Master Bedroom Accent Walls for Every Style
1.Add Drama With A Rich Brown
This is one of the only exceptions to my rule of choosing a stark different colour for the accent wall.
Rich, decadent browns are in, they ground the space and team well with soft off-whites across the other walls and ceiling. If you’re wanting to recreate the earthy design trend in your bedroom, this colour sets the intention. Use a similar shade to the below like Farrow and Ball Salon Drab.
2. Tongue and Groove Panelling
T&G panelling is always a good idea in my eyes. It instils a sense of verticality and can hide a multitude of sins if you want to avoid plastering your wall.
Typically it’s painted in a different shade to the rest of your walls, a charming soft sage green like Mizzle by Farrow and Ball creates a soft and serene environment for the bedroom.
The colour used on the panelling here is Neptune French Grey.
3. Wall Moulding Panels
There are so many fun ways you can fix moulding panels to a wall that don’t have to stay between the confines of traditional wainscoting.
Creating a series of diagonal lines with pieces of moulding, it becomes a design accent in its own right. Paint in a juxtaposing shade to really draw the eye in.
4. Shaker Style Wall Panelling
When choosing panelling for an accent wall, it’s important to consider the age of your property and the type of panelling that is appropriate.
Chunky shaker style panelling is perfect for modern properties, and it’s one of the easiest to DIY yourself. You can get off the shelf panelling kits so everything is included that you’ll need for the job.
The panelling colour here is Good Intentions by Coat Paints.
5. Make A Design Statement With The Headboard
We’re going bold with our headboards in 2025. Instead of being a purely practical aspect to a room, they should be combined with a design accent to make a real statement in a bedroom.
Consider upholstering a headboard in your own chosen fabric for a truly unique look in your bedroom.
6. Elevate With Wallpaper
Wallpaper brings a soft flourish to an accent wall, and with richly detailed wallpaper trending for 2025, the below is a prime example of how to use it in a bedroom this year.
Ditsy floral patterns add a subtle softness to a room, allowing you to add some definition through your bedding and textiles.
7. Bring The Ceiling Colour Down
White ceilings are a dated design approach, and they’re becoming an integral part of design plans for a room.
I adore this bedroom from Studio McGee, bringing the ceiling colour down slightly to meet the panelling creates such a cosy, cocooning feel in this bedroom.
8. Gallery Wall
Instead of choosing a bold shade for the walls, introduce a mix of colour and character with a fun gallery wall.
The idea of curating and selecting artwork can seem daunting, but it’s such a fun and personal thing to a space. My top tip for curating a gallery wall is to start your planning on the floor. Gather your frames and position them on the floor first to see how they would look on the wall.
A mix of sizes, colours and frames is welcomed, and well, there really is no right or wrong way to do it! It can still be edited and curated over time as you collect new artwork or want to fresh up your existing selection.
9. Create A Flow With Wallpaper
A really intentional way to use wallpaper on an accent wall is to the feature the wallpaper at the opening entrance of your door, as demonstrated below.
A rather unusual addition to a bedroom, but it adds some continuation and draws you into the space.
10. Elongate The Bed Frame
Take your bed frame across the length of your bed wall, not only will it feel cocooning, but it brings texture and form to the lower half of the wall.
Introduce colour and a selection of frames on the upper half to draw the eye up, giving the illusion of a taller room.
11. Slat Wood Panelling
Boho inspired and Japandi style rooms are still a popular design trend for bedrooms which has seen the rise in slat wood panelling.
Not only does it bring acoustic sound proofing qualities, but it’s a wall covering alternative that will hide bumps and uneven surfaces whilst adding definition and a grounding look into the bedroom.
12. Half Wall Panelling
This style of panelling has been used in interiors for decades, teamed with wallpaper or another paint colour on the upper half of the wall is a stylish way to add interest and visual endearment in the bedroom.
Take inspiration from the below bedroom, featuring a beautifully vintage inspired design.
13. Add A Shelf
Alternatively, if you’re installing half wall panelling, add a picture rail above it which can double up as a picture shelf. Add a selection of prints and small decor accessories to further enhance your accent wall.
14. Intense Drama With Black
Nothing delivers a more dramatic look than going for a rich black on your accent wall.
It’s not for the faint hearted, and whilst it will bring a cosy depth to your room in the evening, it’s not a colour I would recommend in a very dark bedroom, or one you reside in throughout the day.
But, equally, it can look amazing!
15. Joyful Yellow
Yes, yellow really is in. With paint brand Dulux announcing their colour of the year, True Joy, it really is one of the best colours for instilling some sunshine, warmth and joy within us.
It virtually works with most colours too, note those beautiful black and white tones with green for a fun pop of colour.

16. Wood Panels For Verticality
Wood panels are a cheaper alternative to tongue and groove panelling, and they can look just as good, adding verticality to a bedroom.
Paint in the same shade as the other walls, it will still add depth and interest to the bedroom.
17. Earthy Inspired Scheme
Brave Ground by Dulux which is used on the panelling in the image below sets the tone for an earthy colour scheme, adding depth and cosiness to the room.
Introduce other earthy colours into your scheme for a soothing, serene space. Shaker wall panelling can sometimes feel plain, so break up the monotony with a beautiful wreath.
18. Built In Shelf
If you have the opportunity to build in a shelf during a renovation, perhaps to conceal wiring, this is the perfect time to box it in flawlessly whilst leaving a perch for decor accessories and prints.
It’s such a simple way to create an accent wall behind your bed, subtle and stylish.
19. Reclaimed Wooden Boards
Lean into the natural world by panelling with reclaimed wooden boards on your accent wall, it embraces the unexpected and grounds the room in such a wholesome way.
A beautiful accent wall idea for modern, country and farmhouse inspired design schemes.
