Elevated, grown up and luxurious, for kids bedroom ideas that will tie your whole house together rather than stick out like a sore thumb, I have you covered!
What you won’t find here are Spiderman covered rooms or Peppa Pig inspired bedding… I’ve compiled over 20 luxurious kids bedroom ideas that both you, and your little ones will absolutely love to be in.
21 Luxury Kids Bedroom Ideas That Your Little Ones Will Love
1.Soft, Muted Colour Palette
Bold, brash colours won’t help to achieve that luxurious, elevated look, but opting for soft, muted shades are also what I would recommend for any kids bedroom because they don’t over stimulate at the wrong times.
Leaning into softer, more muted shades such as dusty pinks, baby blues, sage greens and creams can help to create a sumptuous scheme that looks expensive, but is soothing in equal measure.
2. Sage Green Details
Green sits in the middle of the colour spectrum which is what makes it one of the easiest colours on the eye, and the most un-stimulating colour for a kids room.
Just using it in 30-40% of your rooms colour scheme is enough to avoid it overpowering the space. Use a neutral base on the walls, this makes it easier to update the bedroom scheme as your little one grows.
3. Layer For A Luxurious Feel
It’s all about layering texture and colour to create a more expensive, luxurious looking scheme.
Start with the floor by adding a large area rug underneath the bed, getting rug sizing right is so important as a rug too small can make the room feel much more inferior than it actually is.
Then build texture through bedding, canopies, curtains, cushions and throws.
4. Grown Up Stripes
Stripes are a beautiful way to inject some colour and personality into a room whilst they’re a truly classic pattern that will bring longevity to a kids bedroom.
Use wallpaper or create the striped look yourself by using tape and paint to create the pristine lines. Use the same colour around the woodwork, as shown below this adds a more intentional, finished feel to the bedroom.
5. Whimsical Feel
You can create a magical scheme aimed at your kids that still feels luxurious. Choosing a large scale light fitting can help to achieve this, go larger, it will make the room feel bigger and will create a focal feature.
Layering and focusing on beautiful textures is really important, it brings a tactile feel and really elevates the overall look.
6. Scale Up
I’ll say it again, but scaling up will always pay dividends in a room scheme. If you pick an item that’s small, it’s going to have the reverse effect and make a room feel even smaller.
If you have a particularly large bedroom to fill, you really need to lean into the larger items here to make the room feel fulfilled. Light fittings, bed frames, bedside tables, chairs and area rugs need to be carefully considered here.
7. Luxury Bunk Beds
Bunk beds are having quite the renaissance at the moment, and you can forget those ugly iron clad beds from the past!
Bespoke built in’s are the way forward, there are so many options for customisation including LED track lighting, privacy screens and plush fabrics like shown below. If you’re creating a shared kids bedroom, this is the way to do it.
8. Elevated Blue
Cobalt blue or bright baby blue doesn’t feel as luxurious as a muted, light to mid shade of blue. The type of colours you pick can have a big impact on how the overall room scheme feels.
Plus, just because you’re wanting to creating an elevated kids room, it doesn’t mean you need to skip on the unique personal details and fun wall art ideas to create something special for them.
9. Have Fun With Colour
I am obsessed with the colour scheme in this room for a really fun and playful look. Farrow and Ball Dix Blue has been used on the ceiling and a 1/3 of the way down the walls, this creates a really sultry, stylish feel, finished with a contrasting striped wallpaper to elevate the room.
At opposing ends of the colour spectrums, these colours work beautifully together for a high impact look.
10. Sweet Scallop Detail
Add a delicate feel to a little girls bedroom by creating a half wall scallop pattern on a bed wall, or around the perimeter of the room.
This little DIY is easy to recreate, you’ll need something round, such as the bottom of the mug to draw around to create the pattern.
11. Neutral Base
Using a warm off-white or elevated neutral on the walls and ceiling will add longevity to your kids bedroom.
Instead of having to update the wall colour every few years, you can just switch up textiles and wall art as they grow up and their tastes mature. Farrow and Ball Slipper Satin is a sophisticated neutral that’s understated and will set the tone in any kids room.
12. Vintage Bed Frame
Mixing a little bit of old and new is key to creating a luxurious looking space.
I adore the vintage bed frame used in the sweet boys bedroom below, it grounds the entire scheme and makes the whole space feel a little bit more expensive.
13. Add Tongue & Groove Panelling
Another way to create a more expensive looking space is to install tongue and groove panelling to a wall. The grooves instantly draw the eye up, creating the illusion of a bigger space.
It adds instant character to otherwise plain walls and it can easily be repainted in years to come when your child outgrows the colour palette.
14. Ascend The Eye With A Fun Gallery Wall
Bring a unique touch to their bedroom with a fun gallery wall. This is a great opportunity to have some fun and inject their personality into the space.
DO vary the types of artwork you use, this is effective below where they use wall hangings, prints in frames, garlands and little pegs. It creates a more eclectic feel which works beautifully in a kids bedroom.
15. Tasteful, Sweet Details
If you have space in their bedroom for a little play setup/reading nook, look no further than the below for some gorgeous inspiration.
You can still create a beautiful, luxurious looking space with kids, cluttered mess that looks good! Focus on including tasteful details and beautiful wooden or pastel coloured kids toys that look great on show.
16. Include The Fifth Wall In Your Design Plans
We are getting more adventurous with our interiors and the ceiling is no longer an after thought in design plans, instead, make it an integral part of a design!
Wallpaper the ceiling in a fun, colourful design to instantly elevate the look of the room. Kids will love staring at it in bed and it creates the illusion of a much larger room.
17. Pattern Drench
An elevated bunk bed design which leans into pattern drenching for a beautifully executed room. This room below features Waterhole wallpaper and matching fabric on the curtains from Juliet Travers.
Offset with a grounding neutral that really defines the overall scheme and allows the pattern to breathe in the space. Get the look with similar shade, Mouse’s Back from Farrow and Ball.
18. Combine Different Patterns & Textures
If you can have fun and explore pattern anywhere, it’s in a kids room!
Not sure where to start? As a general rule of thumb, I always advise using one larger scale pattern and then pairing with a smaller scale pattern, this avoids them clashing. An example of this is to use a dainty floral pattern on bedding or textiles and then a simple stripe on walls or a throw.
19. Luxurious Sport Lover Theme
Think sports luxe! This boys bedroom feels mature, elevated, yet includes everything they love.
The sport theme runs beautifully throughout with the basketball hoop artwork, wall hanging balls and even with the ball cushion. Leaning into greens, browns and whites keeps the space feeling light and masculine, but really luxurious.
20. Brass Details
If you want to add a sense of elegance to a kids room, focus on the accent details and the type of hardware you use.
Brass details not only add instant warmth, but they carry a sense of grandeur with them. Adopt this with light fittings, mirrors, door hardware, sockets & switches and any small decor details such as photo frames and lamps.
21. Sultry Colours
Leaning into a deeper, moodier colour instantly creates a more luxurious feel.
Recreate the below kids room with paint shade Sulking Room Pink by F&B, it grounds the lower half of the room, with a beautiful stripe wallpaper above it to draw the eye up.
Pair with a dainty floral print on bedding for a sweet girls bedroom that looks amazing.
