Who Said You Have To Spend Thousands on Home Renovations?

Well, everyone said it.

It’s a common misconception that once you start renovating the house, you’re spending thousands. People will tell you they can’t even go get a sadly, no longer 99p but £1.29,  McDonald’s cheeseburger, because they’re saving for a house renovation.

Below, we’re going to look at the renovations that don’t break the bank but scratch the renovation itch most of us homeowners have.

The Small, Seemingly Unimportant Repairs

These renovations focus on the small things that bug us every single day. The squeaky doors, the chipped paint, the broken door handles – why do we leave these for eternity and let them drive us insane every day?

Those three issues we’ve mentioned can be fixed in one weekend (or one day, depending on how good you are). They’re inexpensive, anyone can fix them, and you can order everything you need online.

You can change old doors to modern glass doors with a few screws and it’ll stop them squeaking and literally transform an entire room.

And we don’t need to give you a tutorial on how to paint – you can find one on YouTube and as long as you have paint, a paint tray, a roller brush, and a normal brush, you can do it.

Any small changes you notice around your home that are broken – whether it’s a lightbulb that’s blown or is a different colour to the rest of the room, or a lighting fixture that isn’t fixed on properly – work on changing them one by one and see how much of a difference it makes.

A Furniture Switch Around

There’s nothing better than a good furniture switch around – and now it’s the season to think about doing it. It’s therapeutic, if you ask us, but the way it can transform a room and the vibe needs to be studied. And yes, we’d say every room is suitable for a switch around.

And the best part about this one is you don’t even have to spend any money. The one thing you might need to do is buy a TV bracket for the wall because if your TV is on a stand, we’d highly recommend seeing if it would look good on the wall and getting rid of the TV stand to make space.

It’s pretty self-explanatory, but change the positions of the bigger pieces of furniture, like your couch, bed, or even your dining table, and see how much of a difference it makes to the space.

Simple New Furnishings

You don’t need to go to DFS or Furniture Village and spend thousands on a new sofa – we hope nobody is still doing it in 2024. We think simple new furnishings are the best.

Some new art on the wall, a new rug on the floor, new curtains for winter, a new bedding set – they all really make a big difference.

We’d say window treatments (curtains, etc), are the most neglected change people never think about. If you ask yourself how long you’ve had the same curtains and blinds, you’ll know what we mean.

So, do you still feel obligated to break the bank, or are you going to focus on some minor changes that might scratch the renovation itch?

And besides, it isn’t the season to be spending so much money on renovations with Christmas coming at us so fast!
