At the end of last year I was still that girl who ate ketchup with her roast, I know, CALL THE POLICE.
Ketchup WAS the only sauce I could tolerate with anything, I was sentenced to a lifetime of eating plain dry chicken and even that’s ghastly.
It’s only been in the last 6 months that I’ve become more adventurous and my tastebuds have really changed due to the drastic changes I’ve made to my diet this year, and I finally feel like I’m not so afraid of new food.
After a full week of trying rice and chicken for my lunches I was on the brink, and needless to say I jumped at the opportunity to head down to Turtle Bay in Plymouth last Friday evening for some flavoursome food. It was the treat that I SO needed.
If you’re not familiar with Turtle Bay, they are a Caribbean Restaurant & Bar serving food packed with Caribbean warmth, flavour and love and amazing cocktails (get some 2′ 4 ‘1 action at happy hour). Turtle Bay is literally perfect for drinks before going out or having a meal featuring their famous jerk chicken.
I’ve visited twice previously and there is literally nowhere else in the UK to compare this restaurant to as I feel like you’re getting an experience when you dine there. It’s not just the food that makes Turtle Bay who they are. Its the interiors, the reggae tunes and the cool vibe that instantly transports you away from your daily life and I think there is a lot to be said for that.
Yes, I’m teetotal OBV, but if I didn’t take a picture it didn’t happen right? Plus the cocktails looked SO pretty! I’m such a fan of their homemade ginger beer and lemonade, if I could just bottle it up and drink that all summer long I would be so happy.
James didn’t exactly say no to the 2 cocktails either, these were the Side Chick Martini. If you like Rum then you are gonna LOVE their cocktails. They also have a nice range of mocktails so you don’t have to feel left out if you’re not drinking.
James and I are probably (have been) the fussiest eaters ever, I mean James only used to ever eat Pizza and Bacon sandwiches and I ate everything dry. Not only did we order out of our comfort zone, but we both said how amazing it was. It’s such a shame that we’ve cut ourselves off from eating out at places like this before or being selective with what we’ve picked.
I went for the hot chick breaded burger with hot sauce, the type that makes your lips feel like they’re on fire and your nose run. James had the street burger which was seasoned beef with jerk mayo and spiced fries. My mouth is literally watering whilst looking back at the pictures of the food, we were seriously impressed!
My burger was even topped with grilled pineapple which is literally my fave!
We both had the BEST evening at Turtle Bay for so many reasons, trying something different for once, the atmosphere, it honestly felt like we’d had a mini holiday without the annoying people. The food was incredible and we both said we have to do this more often! It made such a nice change from eating dominos in front of the TV, LOL.
If anything, it’s given me more courage to start trying more spices and trying the hottest things on the menu, because like this, I might just surprise myself. As they say, life begins outside of your comfort zone and I couldn’t agree more.
Thank you so much for having me Turtle Bay, I can’t wait to visit again soon!
