Christmas weekend in London!

This weekend I headed down to London to meet up with James and to have a truly Christmas weekend doing all of the touristy things, winter wonderland, ice skating, shopping etc! London at Christmas really is breathtaking and everything is just perfect. I really did leave on Sunday feeling like I was in the Christmas spirit! Despite the throngs of people and queues it was definitely all worth it. I just thought I would share with you some of the things we got up to and what I would recommend if you do find yourself in London this Christmas! My pictures are either from my Iphone or digital camera as despite how much I love my DSLR it is not made for carrying around London all day, so I comprised for quality on this occasion haha!

Above is the absolutely gorgeous Christmas tree at Somerset house, the ice rink is huge and would be amazing to do at night time when everything is lit up, inside the houses that surround the rink are filled with Fortnum and Mason foods and presents, definitely all out of my price range but it was nice to have a browse!
On the Sunday we headed down to South Bank which had a lovely little Christmas market up, I would definitely recommend visiting over the likes of Winter Wonderland. It was nice to see it but it was so packed on the Saturday and I personally found it really tacky and everything is far too over priced! South Bank was much quieter and really pleasant to walk around.
Lots and lots of Christmas trees!

We were invited down to the London Eye Skate for a session on the Sunday, the location is perfect as the backdrop to the rink is the London Eye as you can see below.

The weather had been perfect on the Saturday but it was typical that it started raining just as we turned up!

I can imagine that it is even more stunning at night time as the rink is lit up by the London Eye.

Despite it being the weekend I was quite surprised how empty the ice was which I preferred as you were able to get around a lot more easily, without the fear of being knocked over!
I had a really fun morning on the London Eye Skate, the session lasts 45 minutes which is standard for any of them really, it was accompanied by lots of Christmas music which definitely left me feeling well and truly with festive spirit! The location really is perfect and it's so nice to be able to make use of the views at the same time too. To find out about more great Christmassey days in the UK like this then you need to check out this amazing guide!
Another of my favourite places in London at Christmas is Covent garden, I was most attracted to this  gorgeous reindeer sleigh that was made out of lego, so cool! As usual they have a massive Christmas tree and silver reindeer on show too.
Of course the trip was not complete without shopping on Oxford street, despite the massive queues I managed to pick up some nice bits, sadly no Christmas presents though, I seem to be much better at buying for myself, funny that! The amount of love I share for Selfridges is unreal, it is without a doubt one of my favourite department stores. After having a browse and picking up a few beauty bits we stopped for some mini Lolas Cupcakes! I'm more of  a fan of cookies but the looks factor of cupcakes just win me over every time, their Christmas cupcakes were amazing!

So that was a quick round up of my trip in London, if I was to recommend anything it would be obviously to go shopping on Oxford street and see the Christmas lights lit at night time, visit Somerset House and Covent Garden, go ice skating, visit Winter Wonderland...at your own risk!! Lastly my favourite is to have a browse in my favourite department stores, Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols!

Do you like visiting London at Christmas? What things do you do to help you get in the festive spirit?
